Question for the techies

this is just a question that I hope someone can answer. Here goes...

I have a Dlink DIR 655 router..... wired to main computer then 1 laptop with dlink network adapter(n), 1 laptop wifi enabled(n) 1 iphone which is n compatible, another desk top with belkin g adapter, and daughter has htc wildfire which is g enabled, so... my question is..
on the router settings page I have set it to g and n enabled, but when I look at what is connected the n enabled devices are showing as g.. would this be right? and does anyone know why they dont show as n. they do show as n if i make the settings N only... but because 2 items are only g this is the reason for the mixed setting.

would love to know the reason for this.. thanks

In N/G mode, it will choose the highest available speed that is compatible on all connected devices (G) in this instance. If the two G devices are disconnected, it will up the speed to N for the rest. It is to prevent network conflicts and speed mismatches.
