creating 'highlights' footage from film?

I'm not sure whether anyone will be able to help, as I suspect what I want to do will fall foul of copyright legislation even though it is for educational use
For the oral assessment of their A Level exam, my students study the Welsh language film Hedd Wyn. Due to the length of the film, we have to watch it over three lessons, and inevitably they have forgotten a lot of what they saw last time by the time our next lesson rolls around.
I would like to create a few minutes' highlight' footage to recap the key events from the footage that they've already seen.
Can anyone recommend a piece of software (or, better still, freeware) that will let me to do this? I have the film on DVD. I don't know what rights protection it will contain as Welsh medium features are produced on a much smaller scale and budget than products for the English market.
Any help or advice gratefully received.

See if this lets you play the disc on a PC and stop and start the programme to get the parts you need

If you will be doing a lot of it, camtasia studio is available with educational pricing
