Vent- Discount Cards

I have just visited a well known leisure store that has a discount card you have to buy and renew annually.
This is to allow you access to "discounted" retail products in store and also to challenge their price match and a couple off no cost giveaways.
What is the point when the their discount prices may be competitive they can usually be bettered without much thought and not just via online?
Secondly they will not allow price match unless you are in possession of a card.
Upon challenging them recently (product was 80% of their dicounted price) they would only match the price after I had brought the card thereby totally wiping out the challenge.
I left the store, purchased said item from the competitor, who through offering a voucher code also discounted by a further 20%.
GRRR:mad:
The same product was available on the high street at 52% (albeit not all sizes available at the time and another large volume seller (widely available) at 54% -59% in another high street retailer. Just to show we are not just talking about the odd 5% or so.
I could understand if the card was in someway for retail shop loyalty, to match their online offering, for retail shop loyalty but you need the card for that too (same prices) and still have P&P to pay.

Why do they pretend that its for discount when most of the items are priced at prices that are available at other outlets?
Like matalan are they just living in the past making you join a special "club" with a card?
Having to buy the card put me off buying from our local go outdoors for several months!
Saying that I joined as nowhere else had the cycle pedals I wanted "urgently"3.78 kWp PV SolarEdge with iBoost South facing.

Simple answer, if you don't like it don't buy it. Its a simple marketing ploy that works very well for them as you have the continual use of discount, so you will use it again and again for the discount. The charge for the card basically covers the cost of the card and a little extra. As for their prices there is a lot of items that other retailers can't even get close to on price so if your merely shopping on price you can't go far wrong with go outdoors.
I think people need remember that the discounts/price match etc isn't a given right they don't have to do it at all, they can sell it at what ever price they choose. If you can't accept that don't shop there go to millets and spend twice as much.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
I was at Go Outdoors yesterday and thought it was a waist of time purchasing the discount card. Unless you are either wanting to purchase loads of stuff or intended going back to the store within the year then it doesn't appear worth it, I decided not to buy the card in the end due to this. Very of annoying too as my nearest store is about 10 miles from where I live, I thought some of their products could be purchased without the card, I didn't realise you'd need the card to get all of the dicounts.
In the end I decided to check online to see if I could get what I wanted cheaper elsewhere and did actually find it cheaper on another online store (not purchased it yet though). The annoying thing was Go Outdoor were selling this for a about £10 more if you wanted a different colour, the places I checked appeared to sell whatever colour you want for the same price. Would save me £20 too if I purchased the item in the store I found after searching the MegaShopBot.
Incidentally, are the prices in Go Outdoors cheaper in-store then their online prices? If this is so then it appears difficult to compare prices.0
