Thompsons cancelled flights. Help needed!

We have received a letter from Thompsons telling us that our holiday to Marsa Alam, Egypt from Manchester in October 2011 has been cancelled due to them no longer offering 11 night holidays from Manchester. Obviously we are gutted and are looking for an alternative.
So far we have spent 25 mins on hold to speak to Thompsons who said that the only alternative was 7 nights at the same cost as our 11 night holiday! Seeing the extortion of this we have asked for a supervisor / manager to call us back. This was supposed to happen tonight before 8 but has not happened.
Does anyone have any suggestions or knowledge of what we are entitled to? It seems unfair that Thompson can cancel last minute and expect us to pay more for the same hotel / holiday. Surely they should honor the holidays they have already arranged and just not book any more 11 days hols from now on? Help!
