Supply Teacher No more work JSA claim?

Hi everyone,
I qualified as a teacher in July 2008, but wasn't able to get a teaching job, so I took a job in a bank.
By March 2010 I wasn't even being selected for interview for the teaching jobs I applied for (largely because I was 'out of teaching')... So I left my job to become a supply teacher.
I landed on my feet there, as from November 2010 to July 2011 I had a full time supply job in one school - effectively my own class)
(All the while I was applying for teaching jobs).
However, that has now ended and I have no work lined up. My money has now run out and I can't afford next month's mortgage payment. I am now applying for any job I could feasibly do, but have had no luck so far.
As I am still registered with the teaching agency and therefore able to work for them as and when work arises, would I be able to claim JSA? I simply can't afford the uncertainty of supply work any more, as I have a son to support (his Dad doesn't contribute - although I am in touch with CSA).

Yes you can make a claim for JSA, infact I suggest you do it on-line this evening.
Without knowing all your personal details I can't say whether your claim will be successful or not however I can say that if you don't make a claim for JSA you won't receive any JSA.0 -
You can claim JSA pending the usual conditions. It's ok to be signed up to an agency and claim JSA but you need to declared any work done.0

I was in a similar situation, except as a TA rather than a teacher. I was told by the job centre that it was no problem, just that if I did 1 days work here or there, then to fill in one of their forms when I signed on, and the amount I'd earned would be knocked off any potential JSA payments.happysinglemum wrote: »Hi everyone,

Not that I received any because TA work is non existent here and I've moved on to other work.Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0 -
Thanks for your replies. I'm going online to do it now! I've never claimed JSA before, so I wasn't sure. I will definitely declare any work done.
Thank you again. Hopefully this will only be a temporary blip, until I get something more secure!
