Thanks guys. In this very stresfull time for us both , its a great help to have advice on here . :T
To update you , the police have told us today that theyre going to charge the other driver with causing the accident.
So just to re-iterate the original qustion - are we likely to get a better deal / amount of compo , from Tesco and their selected solicitor, or go for a 'specialist' firm ? (Im guessing the specialist. ).
If so, can anybody else recommend a solicitors firm from their own car accident experience ?0 -
For the first time ever , we never took out Legal cover... tho Tesco's seem to be waiving this. I guess I therefore need to ensure there are no costs to us, whoever we go with,
I am going to speak to some colleagues at work, as I speak to the Law Society by chance.
One poster has kindly recommended
http://www.thompsons.law.co.uk
If anybody else can recommend any other company , or has used Thompsons as well , then Id love to hear from you.0 -
Typical .. I ring Tesco , and ask them to forward our details onto their solicitors (Carpenters), and then I get an email from a friend talking up how good he was told Thompsons were .
Im assuming we havent committed anything yet to Tesco's, as we havent even spoken to their Solicitors yet - am I right ?0 -
Tesco's were not impressed when I told them I am also speaking to another solicitor to decide who to go with.
Cant say Im impressed by Tesco legal guard anyway - telling me their case worker will call me back 'some time this or next week' ...
Obviosuly not that keen to get my business.
Id rather go elsewhere anyway , as not happy with the amoumt they offered for our written off car0 -
Well, the police told us they were charging the other driver as they had 2 excellent witness statements (and who would go to court to testify) .
We heard nothing for a coupel of weeks , so I had to call them to chase whats happening , and have now been told they have closed the case.
The pc I spoke to refused to ellaborate , saying it needs to come from the pc who was on the case , or his supervisor , and they will ring me later this week , to explain why the case has been closed.
He did add that the evidence suggested we should eb able to progress our compensation case okay, but obviously a charge against the other guy wouldve made our case a lot easier.
I will report back when I find out what the police say .
Im continuing to add to this thread (by myself) , in case its useful for others.
Please feel free to add any similar experinces you may've had - especially fighting for compensation when a charge hasnt been made against the other party.0
