to be honest - even with a contract they could still increase the prices if they include the correct wording

As i say - go in, sit down, discuss it with them.... explain your situation and if they cant move on price, ask them to at least move on a payment date!

My OH is training to be a lawyer, and he has many a time told me that a contract does not have to be on paper. It sounds to me like you have an oral contract, which is still legally binding- just a little harder to prove. The slight increase due to VAT (50p ish) was in the verbal contact, and to me double that (£1-2) is not near enough to be ish! (I think this is where the small print usually comes in!) In my view from what I have been told you do have a point to argue from, it's just how far do you want to push it!?

The same thing happened to us Donna. We got our final invoice through after the menu tasting and it had a menu supplement. I queried this with the events co-ordinator and was told it was because we'd chosen a menu more expensive than the amount allowed on the package. I'd calculated it and it was under. So i emailed the events co-ordinator and said that we understood that they were able to put their prices up, but that we would have expected to have been given the increased prices before we made our menu choices so we could have made an informed decision.

They agreed that we could pay the pre-VAt rise prices.:j:j

If you REALLY do not have a spare £300 then you really are starting your married life on a shoe string!!!!!!

    Not a good omen!!!!

Are you trying to imply something?

Even if they are starting married life on a shoestring its nothing to do with anyone but themselves, if they have budgeted £3000 then £300 is a big dent. Not everyone agree's with blowing £15k just to gain extra status or show off.

I dont understand why u have not signed a contract? once we had agreed the venue and paid a deposit we was sent a contract to sign

Maybe I'm foolish but I don't have a contract with any of my suppliers for my wedding. I have all prices agreed in writing on emails, most things are paid off in total before hand. I've just not asked for a contract and none have given me one.
Most contracts are written in such a way that most elements can be changed so don't really protect the consumer but the supplier.

Really found this post offensive - everyone is in a different situation, you don't know where people are and why is not having a lot of money a bad omen for a wedding? Many people are very happy together with very little money - it is not an issue for them! It's more of a bad omen if you are only concerned with how much you will have!

Sorry rant over - I never reply to posts like this usually but this one just was so nasty and judgemental.
