With British Gas? Submit a meter reading asap

If you, like me, are with British Gas, try to submit new meter readings today (or asap after) to coincide with their price increase for both gas & electricity. Although not guaranteed, they SHOULD use the figures to accurately calculate what KWh should be billed at the old & new rates, rather than simply guesstimating (possibly in their favour?)

  • Would it be wrong to add a couple hundred units on top of actual reading ;)

You do risk them sending out a meter reader immediately after you have submitted a reading.

Think chances would be very slim going by comments made by posters re lack of meter readings made by companys. What they gonna do anyway as it could be put down to typo error.

Yes. Normally Saving tips here don't extend to fraud.

My meter was read 5 days after I had submitted my last meter reading myself! I told the meter man it was silly as I'd already submitted my reading online and he said they were often given random addresses to check that online readings were accurate.

I submit readings online every month and the last time I saw meter reader was just after I changed company 18 months ago, anyway I have been informed that doing this would be tantamount to fraud (not sure if it meant my suggestion or the utility companies who are [STRIKE]fleecing[/STRIKE] charging us to use their product) :D
