Comet and HP vent - sold a PC that apparently wasn't for sale in this country.

I would be very surprised if it was a "US only" model. We recently had a bunch of HP desktops with two different model numbers on the box - it's more than likely yours just has the wrong label (or the HP guy was confused...).
You have no rights to return it because it's a "grey import" - many computer retailers have been selling grey import Samsung HDD's for ages. It doesn't matter if HP say you should return it - they have nothing to do with the contract between you and HP.
I'm also not surprised that Comet didn't take it back, or did they go and call HP's premium late phoneline to be on the phone for hours.
Your warranty is still with Comet, and it'll still have standard parts in it anyway - and if they can't repair it you'll get a refund which in the tech world is even better.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0
