Hi , i am employed and have been on SSP since beginning of May 2011, i have depression and anxiety and i am on antidepressants and go to cognitive therapy, although i feel better it is no where near how i used to feel, in may i came home and was physically and mentally burntout, work didnt help because it is a stressful job with long hours and couple that with money issues at home regards bills and it all got too much.
The problem is, regardless of the fact i arent much better things are spiralling out of control financially and that is making me worse, i have been trying to see if i could find alternative work that is more suitable but knowing that i am still employed is making it hard to find other jobs.
I have kept in touch with my employer and even discussed a phased return to work and although they have been understanding off my circumstance they too have been a bit blunt by suggesting i go back at reduced hours for a week or two then get back to my usual hours which are 50 + per week every week.
I feel sometimes it would be better if they would let me go if the feeling was mutual so i can try and make a fresh start, which was always my aim to return to work but not go back to 50 hours a week, i have been seeking jobs that are more local and less hours such as 30 + per week.
My wife works and between us we could manage financially if we both did 30 + hours per week each.
My therapist said it would help if i could find something else for the long term benefit but its easier said than done , jobs arent aplenty and having a job already is making it hard to move on especially when i am on ssp.
Its sounds cheeky to be happy to stay with them so that i get some money but as soon as something suitable arises to move on , i know it sounds blunt but surely i cant leave and have no money at all while i find a new job.
I feel it would be fair to move on so i can make a fresh start but then i wouldnt have any money, catch 22 or what !
If i did leave or they agreed to let me go would i be able to claim jsa in that situation ??

The 50+ hours per week are above the European Working Time regulations so you cannot be required to work this without your agreement.
What are your contracted hours?0 -
