Contents Insurance

DD1 is sharing a rented house with two friends in her second year. She has asked about insurance. Is it better to insure as a group or as individuals and what should she look for. She is in Liverpool so the post code will be loaded. Do any companies specialise in this type of insurance?

I believe Endsleigh do contents insurance designed for students. I never had it in my 4 years at uni as I didn't see the extra cost worthwhile, however my friends sister was burgled and a lot of their stuff taken (laptop, TV etc.)... whilst they were in the house!

Endsleigh tend to be expensive though. Definitely do a price comparison across providers. You might also be covered for items away from home with your current home insurance. But note that if you were to make a claim it would be on your name and may affect your future premiums.

i was covered by my parents' insurance when i went - but i didn't have anything particularly valuable (no tv, no laptop) so the risk was pretty minor anyway.

I got a quote from Endsleigh and it came out quite expensive at £320 for the year. Cover4students came out cheaper but I can't find many reviews about them?

Does anyone know about claiming rules - I mean if you have to claim do you have to provide a reciept for the item that was lost/broken/stolen? I only ask because I would like to insure my bicycle which I purchased second hand via ebay (£200) and so I have no proof of what I paid.
