Address on the web - 192.com

I can assure that I don't routinely Google myself but I have just done so to see what's available to see about me and my family on the net.

I am unpleasantly surprised to see my name, my husband's and my postcode for all to see on 192.com courtesy of the electoral register. The only good thing about it is that they have the old postcode before we moved house.

I am appalled. For the council to sell our records is one thing, the state to compile all sorts of data without being too bothered about accuracy and privacy is another, now 192.com makes money of it is !
Keep calm and carry on

  • You'd be surprised how easy it is for people to find that kind info on the web. You need to be really careful with your information on the internet. If I wasn't in work right now, I'd be able to post up everything from your name to how much you paid for your house. As it is a quick check has meant that I know your first name and a couple of possibilities of where you live.

As for 192.com, it's just directory enquiries. If I had you full name and rang 118 118 or the like, they'd give me all the same information
  • 192.com will remove your data if you ask them nicely

Ever been in a phone book? They'll have that info there. Best bet is to opt out of being on the full electoral register and phone book

You can opt out of being on the full electoral roll by ticking the box next time you're asked to register. Ensure you're ex-directory and ask 192.com to remove your details. I think there's a link somewhere on their site as to how to go about this.

I assume the data will be from the 2002 electoral roll which had no opt out option, or you did not chose the opt out option from the last electoral roll.

    Removal info is here

Search the 2011 electoral roll, as well as historical voters roll data going back to 2002.

Since 2003, 192.com has published the edited version of the Electoral Roll, which lists the majority of UK electors. The edited register excludes those voters who have chosen to opt out of appearing, but it remains the largest database of people in the UK.

To remove your details from 192.com download this form and fax it or post it to them. I did and my details are no longer on the site.

I would urge as many people as possible to do it as the place is a fraudsters paradise.
