First Choice Holidays Complaint

Hi guys. My first post on the site. Hope you can help in some way.
A few weeks ago I booked a 2 week break with First Choice Holidays in Marsa Alam, Egypt. The holiday was advertised as £626 per person. After varioous bits and pieces (transfers, baggae allowance )were added the total cost of the holiday came to £1,334.00. I paid with a credir card and there was another £35 to pay on top. The total came to £1,367.
Unfortunately I have had to cancel the holiday, through my own fault actually. But am still entitled to a percentage refund. 50% as I have cancelled more than 5 weeks prior to depature. First Choice agree with this.
However, they are now saying that as the original price of the holiday was £1,473.00 and we got it at a discounted rate that the amount of discount, which is £139.00, must be deducted from the price we paid, £1,334.00 and we recieve 50% of THAT figure.
I have disputed this with them and they say it is because that is the price they paid for the holiday. Well, they may have paid that for the holiday but the refund has to be 50% of the transaction between the two of us. Theyre having a laugh aren't they?
I tried to draw an analogy between this and buying a discounted tin of beans at Sainsburys and then taking it back wanting a refund, well you'd expect a full refund with the pre-discount price having nothing to do with it.
If they bought the holidays for £1,473.00 why are they selling them at a loss then? What a load of rubbish.
Anyway, what can I do apart from shout down the phone at them?
Thanks
OakleyMatt
btw I cancelled because I have realised I just have too much on my plate, as in December I am doing a charity cycle ride through India in aid of my local hospice.

What they paid for the trip is irrelevant. Your contract with them is based on the purchase price between them and you.
IANAL etc.0 -
To be clear, are you quibbling about 50% of the difference between 1334 and 1367? ie £16.50?One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0
-
£1,334 x 50% = £667.
(£1,334 - £139) x 50% = £597.50
The difference is £69.50, not £16.50.(You don't get credit card fees back if you cancel).

Contact your credit card company if they are not playing ball.0

check the terms and conditions of the holiday - if it doesnt declare it in there, then thye aren't covered...0

£1,334 x 50% = £667.
(£1,334 - £139) x 50% = £597.50
The difference is £69.50, not £16.50.(You don't get credit card fees back if you cancel).
you could have done your sum as £139 /2 = £69.50
What was their explanation for taking the discount off again? it sounds like the person you spoke to might have been confused regarding the discount and thought that the price was £1,334 minus a discount. Phone back and speak to somebody else.0 -
A holiday would be nice, however I over stretched myself financially, Im self-employed. Any time off is lost income. And time off for a holiday combined with time off for this charity event very shortly after in India left me over-stretched.scheming_gypsy wrote: »Phone back and speak to somebody else.
I did, they're adamant they're right.
Im not allowed to post URLs on here as Im a newcomer, however if you'd like to go to the virgin money giving website and type in Matthew Bateman into the search function you can sponsor me if you'd like. At least you'll be able to read why I am doing the sponsored ride Ive mentioned. Thanks. ;0)0
