100% incorrect. You can rent out a HA property if you wish. A HA do not care as long as they get their rent.
The idea is they have a list of 100 people, 1 person comes off the list as they found them a property so the list is now 99. What that person does with the property does not alter the fact the list has reduced in size which is what the HA want.0 -
You really are a snob op. The majority of Council tenants are not workshy, they are incredibly hardworking, kind, down to earth people. They are not scum nor do they screech around in their cars all the time. Alot of them are in Council houses through no fault of their own. Say you were to lose your job/become ill - disabled and you were not able to pay for your wonderful house on its affluent estate? What would you do if in 2 days time you were going to be homeless? Would you turn your nose up at a Council house or would you grab it with both hands??? Would you consider yourself scum if in this position? i dont think you would. Keep your nose out of your neighbours affairs - Maybe they seen you for what you are? Maybe they were sick of your curtains twitching everytime they left their house? Maybe you made their life intolerable???
And if you really want to know who owns the house then pay your £4 ? and find out.0 -

I don't think that's actually the case. August 2009 from here:Social landlords are being encouraged to cross-check their records with one another as part of a government crackdown on the illegal subletting of homes.
Local authorities and housing associations will take part in an extension to the Audit Commission’s National Fraud Initiative, which has been studying wider data held by councils and other public authorities for more than ten years.
December 2010 from here:Housing Minister Grant Shapps has today launched a new national crackdown on tenancy cheats who unlawfully sublet their council or housing association properties and deny homes to people who really need them.
At least 50,000 social homes in England are being unlawfully occupied - providing the equivalent number of new social homes would cost more than £5 billion, and it is estimated that the number of unlawfully occupied properties ranges from one in 100 in some parts of the country to more than one in 20 social homes in some inner London boroughs.
August 2011 from here:Ministers are targeting the 50,000 people who cash in on their council homes by renting them out while they live elsewhere.
Under new laws those abusing the system will have their homes taken off them and face imprisonment, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.
Their properties will then be rented to those most in need, saving billions.
Grant Shapps, the housing minister, said: “Social housing is really precious and it’s not right that tenancy fraud and abuse locks out some of the most vulnerable families from getting a roof over their heads.”0 -

100% incorrect, you cannot rent out a HA property, god if you were allowed to do that you would have loads of tenants just renting out the HA properties to make money, a 2 bed flat to rent in my area costs around £575 per month on a private let, if its a HA let it would cost £340 per month, so a tenant could rent the property out and make a profit of over £200 per month, and if that tenant were on HB he could keep the lot!
Ring up your local HA and enquire about it, ask them if you were in one of their properties could you just put a to let sign up and let it out to anyone, the answer would be a resounding NO, there is a strict list for these properties, they go in order of priority so if someone leaves they have to hand over the keys in order for the HA to re let to someone in need. And when one does become available they dont just shove a to let sign up, they check the property over, do whatever repairs need doing then send a letter to someone in need on their list that one has become available.0 -

This is subletting and is forbidden in your lease.
Unfortunately you are correct in that many people get away with it.0 -

I didn't say that all council tenants are scum, I said that the ones I have experienced have been. People tend not to look after things as much if they do not belong to them, this is human nature. Get off your high horse.
If you knew me and my OH and met our neighbours you would understand how absurd your comments are, but I guess this is the danger with talking on a forum.0 -
We privately let our house, and moved out the day after we told our next door neighbours we were going.
The reason why? Because we didn't like them and it was none of their business. What the Deuce?0 -

You didnt say that ALL Council tenants weren't scum either. In fact you pretty much generalised towards the opinion that all Council tenants were workshy scum! Please read back over your posts on this thread. Cannot be such an affluent area if you have experienced so many bad ones. It is not human nature at all to not look after things. Thats like saying people in private rented houses wont look after them because its not theirs. What a load of tosh. The majority of people take care of whatever they have
Ahhhh my high horse! Thankfully I left it behind many years ago, my opinion (which is all it is on an open forum) is purely a grassroots opinion. I actually dont care who you are or where you live or where you are from but I really dont like neighbours who pry. In fact I positively relish my privacy. As for the absurdity of my comments - I feel they are a fair reflection on your past comments in this thread. I may be wrong I may be right - either way its irrelevant but I replied as I think the basis of your post was shaky to say the least. You seemed to want reassurance that all council tenants deserved to be spied on and accused of all sorts????? Like I said previously the information you require is there to buy.0 -
We have not spied on anyone, we do not spend a lot of time in the house, we have a 6 foot high fence without gaps so can barely see them. They throw stuff in our garden, park infront of our garage, leave !!!! all over the street next to the bins until neighbours pick it up... we are 20 somethings, I can assure you we have better things to do then spy on a bunch of chavs who are twice our age.
I apologise if I came across as if I thought all council tenants are scum. I have had bad experience from these neighbours, some of our friends have moved to new estates and have had similar problems with the minority of people who have been "housed" there, so this has (as I previously stated) given me a bad view of them. Which perhaps is wrong.0
