How much spending money??

Hi we are going to Zante for a week sc on 23rd Sept, we are a family of 2 adults and 3 children aged 12,7 and 3. I am wondering how much spending money we should take?? I was thinking around the region of £1200, will this be enough as we are self catering?? I was hoping to do a couple of 1/2 day excursions aswell, prob shipwreck cove and turtle spotting, I'm just paranoid about not having enough money lol!!! We will prob have breakfast in the apt a few times in the week but would like to have breakfast out a couple of times aswell and would like to eat out every night, myself and my hubby don't drink much alcohol though!! is £1200 for the week realisitic??

    Hi,

Someone posted a similar question the other day & someone kindly posted this link which may help you get an idea.

    http://www.greeklandscapes.com/travel/prices.html

We went to Skiathos in June for a week 2 adults & found that prices were on average 3e for a beer, 10e for a litre of wine, soft drinks were about 2e. Most places we ate main meals were between 7-10e & starters/puds 4-5e.

We always allow £100 a day when we go away to cover everything including trips & ac most of the time we don't spend that much but were not normally far off. We have breakfast in our apartment which is always watermelon & then eat out lunch & dinner every night with a few beers & a litre of wine. The thing you will probably find expensive is the soft drinks & ice creams for the kids. Someone we spoke to said they got squash from the supermarket & made that up into bottles to take out with them in the day to try save money.
Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

As a family of 4 (two adults two children aged 6&3) we spent €43/day on food/drinks/snacks/bus tickets and a reasonable amount of alcohol in 2010. This was on Naxos and Ios - Zante is a bit more expensive but not that much.

This was mostly self catering, probably eating out 1 evening in 3 - making our own breakfast (bacon sandwiches) and lunch. We don't do things like sunbed hire which can be as much as €10/day or watersports. Do eat out at least some of the time - it is part of the Greek experience.

In 2011, we spent €75/day but we were camping so treated ourselves with the money we were saving to just about anything we fancied - so we had breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks out.

If you are self catering, find out where the locals do their shopping - they do not do a weekly shop in the local mini market. We use our rucksacks to carry the shopping home.
  • Thank you both for your replies, that helps a lot!! From what you've both said £1200 should be plenty for us as long as we don't go too crazy with the spending!!, and thank you for the helpful tips!! Buying squash and shopping where the locals shop etc, all helps to save a few pounds (or euros lol!!). I usually go AI when we take the children but sc was all we could afford this year - we were lucky to even have a holiday abroad lol!! :D

I would try to take the least amount as possible and then if you need more just pay for stuff on a card there. you dont want to take too much and then have to bring it back and exchange it for a really bad rate.
