  • I would get an insulated (thermos style) teapot, eg

As well as saving on hot water you can make a teabag do two mugs. 20oz size will give you a large Starbucks mug, 36oz will give you almost two full large mugs.

If you go to work by train, why not take your insulated teapot with you from home, then you won't have to pay for tea on the train, and you can fill up again at work using work's hot water for the journey home?

i was going to suggest a thermos bottle aswell, i'd just fill it with hot water and make tea as and when mainly ebcause i don't like my tea stewed :)

  • I'm the same, on days off I have 2/3/4 cups in an hour or so and I always get through a small-medium pot of tea (kept in a cosy) in this time.

A charity shop is a great place to buy a teapot, they usually have a selection for about £3. If you don't want the expense of a teacosy just yet, you could use a woolly hat. Or, if you've got an old woolly hat you don't want to wear again, you could cut a hole for the spout and a hole for the handle and it'd be your permanent tea cosy :)

On work days I still make the pot, but fill a travel mug (starbucks ones don't leak in my handbag and the metal ones stay hot for hours) from the pot.

I think a proper tea pot is so much nicer than a thermos jug but it's a matter of preference. I also enjoy having people over to tea and being able to pour everyone a cup at the table with refills :)

    Enjoy your teapot!

Maybe not what you are after, but for lazy days, earthenware teapot & tea leaves [not bags], get some good tea, treat yourself, go in Waitrose or the Co-op, try Clipper brand leaves if you can find them, or maybe own brand breakfast tea, or perhaps Earl or Lady Grey?

If tea is left too long in any pot, it will become "stewed", so if you like long lingering tea drinking, maybe ignore the very minor cost & make a fresh brew each time?

When I make a pot of tea I always whip out the teabags as soon as the tea is brewed to the strength I like (strong) This way I find it stays drinkable for long enough for a second or even third cup.

Hard to beat a proper tea pot - must be thick earthenware or china - and proper tea leaves. It keeps (and tastes) so much better than T bags in a pot.

I recently ran out of leaf tea for my morning pot and used bags instead - the second cup had that horrid filmy scum on top that you only get with T bags, you never get it with proper leaf tea. A good cosy is a must.

    One of lifes essentials.:)

I only use loose tea. I've got one of those teapots which has a place to put the leaves, so I put a teaspoon of tea in there, fill up with hot water, then pour the contents into my brown teapot, then fill up the smaller teapot again and pour that into the brown teapot! That way the tea doesn't stew. It's almost like having it on tap, then when it's empty I do the same again (no wonder I'm always dashing to the loo!) It does get a bit cooler by the time I get to the end, and I keep meaning to make myself a cosy. I like the idea of using an old hat though! Very frugal. I'm sure there's a spare one knocking around the house.
