I wonder if anyone can tell me why G mail takes so long to load? I have cleared cookies etc but it still takes several minutes.

Which browser are you using?0

Mine is pretty much instant in google chrome, firefox and Internet Explorer. Broadband speed is 7.5mbps. Have you got any really large items in your inbox e.g. emails with large pictures attached?I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be0

oddly enough gmail has been a bit on the slow side for me today as well.
Thought it might just be my connection ( I'm having stability issues with it!)Laters

If you mainly access Gmail using your home computer, you could try turning off https. This should make loading faster. Under the General tab in Settings click "Don't always use https." You can also change the setting above this to show just 15 mails (conversations) per page.0

I have a Macbook and use Chrome for my G mail account and Safari for my wifes, saves logging off, both take a few seconds to show emails but then carry on loading something for well over a minute!0

I know what you mean and I have been having the same problem for a good few weeks now (in firefox and chrome), I am 99% sure it is just a bug with gmail, I just click stop or refresh and it stops the mysterious loading, it doesn't seem to be having any other impact on gmail so just clicking stop/refresh is a solution.0 -
Thanks jayme1, glad it isn't just me, means the 'puter is OK, we are in the sticks in France so only 1.4Mbps. Thought that might have something to do with it or a bug of somekind.0

The problem is probably not Gmail but your PC or Connection.
Do you have a proxy server? eg at work. (turn it off or configure it correctly)
Is your router firewall enabled and if so is it blocking gmail ports?
Does your browser have extra plugins and toolbars installed? (un-install them all!!)
Do you have a ad blocker installed? ( gmail is a free service and if you have a advert blocker gmail will not play ball )
Gmail help has allot of documentation to help on all the above.0 -
Thanks chillsky but none of these are the problem except perhaps the add blocker which I don't have, not sure how to put one on.0

Gmail seems to take an age for me sometimes when using Firefox, but if I switch to Chrome it's much faster.0
