Budget Car Rental - £200 UNAUTHORIZED charge

Options
I am not sure which forum to use to post this because I don't think there is a specific forum for company charges (only for bank ones but it's not the bank I'm blaming).

I found out an unauthorized charge from Budget Car Rental for £200 and I am not sure why is that. I called them already and they told me they will contact me back, I will give it 1 more hour and if I don't hear back I will try to escalate it with them.

The only time I've ever used them was a month ago, I went to pick up a car and it's GPS charger wasn't working so I went back to the car desk, returned the car keys and told them about it, they wanted me to either wait so they can fix that charger or get a refund - I chose to get a refund and it was refunded back to my card with no problems.

The thing is today I found out a £200 transaction from them posted in my account, for absolutely no reason, I haven't even used any of their cars and now I'm waiting to hear back and understand why is that, but why could they possibly do that and why?! :(

If its a genuine unauthorized payment, Call the bank and state the transaction and amount tell them you didn't authorize, you should have the funds released into your account and will send forms out.

They actually contacted me back - there was a human error .... when I cancelled the rental agreement they forgot to put VOID on it in their system, so their accounting charged me for the remaining time of the rental which wasn't used.

Hmmm... anyway this human error is now rectified/fixed, they said a refund was issued today back to the card and she will email a receipt as well....

I guess the issue is resolved now, but if I wouldn't have an overdraft facility with the bank I might have serious issues, but thank god I do so I am not going to lose any extra money because of this charge...

Thanks for your response. I'm glad there's no need to go through all that because the error is on their end and they made a mistake and rectified it.
I'm just waiting for the refund now... probably would take a few days because the weekend is coming close.

Oh, I got a free upgrade as a compensation as well, I forgot to mention that ... not that I'm thinking of using it again as I'm leaving the UK soon unfortunately...
