  • When I worked in a hotel that did a lot of weddings the DJ came as part of the package and cost £200, playing from about 7 PM to 1 AM.

Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")

OOh just to add please make sure that your dj has public liability insurance, alot of dj's dont have this but 99% of venues require this and will need to see proof.the hotels we enquired at requested they had this,a few dj's we called didnt have it but the one we have does

I would second what Hollie says - our venue insisted on this too!

Jesus £300 for a bloke and a few records, you could get a whole live band for less.

Where can you get a band for £300!!!! It must be elastic!
All the quotes I had for bands were around £1,000

My OH has his own disco/karaoke business and goes out for around £250 for weddings (which tend to be longer than just a regular party. He's got all his stuff PAT tested and has full PLI - not all do. He also supplies lights, lasers, smoke etc if required and will always offer to meet a couple to discuss what they want - not just their song choices, also things like light colouring and set up, and he'll usually visit the venue to check out the place beforehand. And no way will you get a band anywhere near that price - he used to be in a band and they'd charge more for a just a regular few hours down the pub than that, pay for a wedding band and it's real kerching time!

Thank you all very much for your replies.

The venue has said that their resident DJ is £170, which sounds very reasonable. I will ask to meet him and discuss requirements and if he seems decent I will go with that.
