Are we being scammed?

Hi guys, long time lurker who's always thought the forums on here were superb.
I was just reading other threads about scams on Car Buying.
We just put our car up on Gumtree and got an email asking if the car was still available. We said yes, and then got this email:
Now, the dodgy things:
- Quick response to new listing
- Offering more money than asked
- Shipping car abroad
- Wont be able to see car
Things making me less sure of a Scam:
- English isn't awful and talkng about love and heath for my loved ones
- Offering PayPal and Bank Transfer, not cheque
- Car is in very good condition and only 4 years old and has lots of the bells and whistles so is a very very good deal at this price, so shipping it IS *tiny voice* plausable. But it'd still cost an absolute fortune so i have to be honest and say i think this is weird.
Basically - our alarm bells are certainly ringing, but if we get the money via bacs or PayPal we can't work out HOW they would scam us....
Also - don't you need to have the V5 signed by the buyer???
Your opinions would be greatly appriciated.
At this point though i don't think we will be taking him up on the offer!!
Do you really need an answer to this question??Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
I own up to being a scambaiter, but if the OP wants to torment the scammer it's best for him to open up a free mail account and do it using that and not one associated with his real life details.
The scammer will have sent this mail to hundreds of people and won't be likely to notice or care who replies. It's sensible and preferable to keep real life and scambaiting separate. Scambaiting won't get your car sold.Never ever give your card details to anyone over the phone, and check the reputation of any company you do intend to give them to.0 -
He wants your bank details???????????????0

£10,000 on a car that they have never seen?
Do they not have cars in Malaysia either? New or second hand?
What do you honestly think OP?0 -
If it's any help - I know Malaysia, yes they use right hand drive cars but Malaysian car tax on foreign imports is extortionate (something like 200%) to protect their own car industry (the Proton). Owners of foreign cars are usually greeted with a lot of looking and sometimes are targets of car jackers or worse. There is no way I would buy my dad a foreign car if he lived there as I wouldn't want him to stand out in that way. This bloke is definitely scamming you.i before e, except when you run a feisty heist on a weird beige foreign neighbour0

I agree with above, there are so many convincing scam emails and such going around that could convince you, that and also why wouldn't anybody just buy a car from wherever they are - there is no point in importing a car from half way across the world! good to hear you stuck to your guns as sadly there are many people who fall for such scams.0
