Brand new Renault with fuel leak-advice needed!

Hi I am after a bit of advice.
I have purchased 3 days ago a brand new Renault Grand Scenic. After day 2 I noticed a huge fuel leak. The next morning I went straight down to the dealer to get it looked at.I got told to leave it in for the day and that it should be fixed tomorrow.
When I asked for a courtesey car ,I got told they had none available and I needed to make my own way back to my parents house ,as I am posted overseas.
Once I arrived home I made several phonecalls to Renault customer services and the car dealer where the car was being fix.It took 10hrs! to sort me out just alone a courtesey car!!!!I was given a litlle city car which in comparisson to my newly purchased 7 seater car a joke.It doesnt even fit my daughters pushchair!
I am due to return to Germany(that's where I live) tomorrow. The next problem is the part that my new car needs hasnt even been released as its so new.
Now I wont have a car to return.I need to return to Germany as I am due to deploy to Afghan in the next couple of weeks.
I also got dogs in kennels and I am not prepared to pick up for this.
I have already lost one day of my holidays and need it resolved today.
Has anybody got any advice how to deal with this from now?

Many thanks

Just create as big a stink as you can and hope they replace it with it being so new - if not you're probably not going to be able to do much as their small print will allow them to take reasonable time to get it fixed/replaced. Try faxing the head honcho of the dealership - thats what I did when I'd had loads of trouble with a new peugeot I bought once...still took them ages though to fix the sod...
New cars eh! not worth the hassle - I only buy old heaps now -

Given your situation surely the dealer would take the replacement part off another similar car or showroom model???

I think that's the only way you are going to resolve this shorterm.

Threats of major bad publicity might help, but try reason 1st.

Claims for loss of time etc will have to be addressed later if at all, I'm sure they are secondary tto you?

As said I always avoid new cars for both MSE reasons and I prefer someone else to have the hassles of sorting the waranty bits out ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

  • You could tell the dealer that as the fault appeared after such a short time then you wish to reject the vehicle as is your right under the Sale and supply of goods act.
This act states that you are not deemed to have accepted any goods until you have had a reasonable opportunity to examine them and ensure that they are of satisfactory quality and conform to contract.

Even if you don't want to reject it, this may well give the garage enough of a push to get the matter sorted out quicker.

Define reasonable?? The op needs/is faced by a quick solution or a standoff, I think he needs to decide which.

And of course it's dam crap service from a Renault dealership:mad:

You may not have the right to reject if the problem is not deemed serious enough by the court. To reject something of high value is a very, very dangerous thing to do and can end up costing you thousands/tens of thousands of pounds in legal fees...... and still left with the car in your name (although it will have been fixed by the time it went to court.)

Post seven? I would have though it would have been about four or five. :wall:

You may not have the right to reject if the problem is not deemed serious enough by the court

Personally, I would think that a "huge fuel leak" and the fact that the dealer has stated that the spare part to repair it isn't available yet should be considered serious enough.
Fair enough, a small problem would be acceptable, but surely not something that makes the car totally unusable after only 2 days of ownership especially if there doesn't appear to be any repair available in a short timescale.
It shouldn't even get as far as a court.
The SOGA gives the right of rejection for unfit goods, and the dealer themselves have admitted that the car is broken and can't be repaired quickly.

I fully agree. This is why I stated in my earlier post that:
Even if you don't want to reject it, this may well give the garage enough of a push to get the matter sorted out quicker.
Faced with someone who wants to return an unusable car, they may well consider taking the required part from a display or demo vehicle.

Or de-register the car and give the OP a new one. Not easy to do, but not impossible to achieve.
