Be aware - Admiral Multicar Policy may not be cheaper than Admiral single policies

Options
Last year I had both our cars covered for £560 under Admirals Multicar Policy with myself and my wife listed as drivers.

Renewal quote hit the doormat with a quote of £760!!! No claims made, no changes to circumstances, nothing and they increase the auto-renewal (watch out for that) by £200. Completely unjustified increase. I call the renewal hotline and speak to some American chick (have they been taken over). Said I was extremely angry at the unjustified increase, she looked again and could reduce about £60 so still £700!! I told her even these crime maps show NO crime has been committed in my area all year, can't understand the increase, that they can cancel the increase and that I want to make a formal complaint.

A few hours later I speak to her Manager another Yank, who was apologetic but couldn't do anything. I reaffirmed my desire for a formal complaint, if I didn't I believe she would have closed the correspondence there and then, so watch out people don't be brushed off.

Tonight I have re-adjusted two things reduced the mileage usage down for one car closer to actual use upto 6000 down to upto 3000, and increased the voluntary excess for the other car to £250. I put these changes of details into tescocompare as single policies for each car and admiral came out on top for both quotes £360 for one and £230 for the other. So £590.

I saved those quotes and went to Admirals site and did a multicar policy quote for my updated details and it came back at £640! So I quickly went back and purchased the two single policies through tescocompare website, with Admiral as the insurers anyway.

So longwinded but my advice is don't assume multicar policies are cheaper, never ever auto renew and shop around. I've save £170 with the same company just by reviewing my details and shopping around.

£30 more isn't too bad seeing as the whole industry has increased premiums for female drivers!

Good Luck Amigos

    Whats actually your problem?

Insurance has gone up by 33% in the last year, so they aren't singleing you out or something.

I don't really see what your point is?

Hi, with Admiral you seem to get really good introductory discounts when you are a new customer which you lose when it comes to renewal.

I change insurer every year to get the best price , I go to Admiral Multicar as a new customer then the next year get 2 seperate policies with another insurer then the next year go back to Admiral as a new customer again.

Whilst I would prefer to just be able to stay with Admiral, I realise loyalty means nothing nowadays and accept that a lot of insurers give introductory discounts in the 1st year with them.

It always pays to shop around and so far I have managed to keep my premiums below £360 for 2.2dci diesel and a 1.3 petrol cars.

his point isn't that insurance prices have gone up but that Admiral advertise their multicar policy to save you money; but it's often more expensive than getting two individual policies through them

admiral were good last year and the year before for me, but this year I have gone with bell who is the same company £200 cheaper also
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

The problem is, if companies all told the truth on their advertising, we'd get, as an example, toothpaste companies having to say stuff like "Buy our whitening Gel today! It's not as good as Brand x's though, but get it anyway".

Thats obviously not going to sell them any product, so they aren't going to do it.

Admiral, by the same standard, can't always be the cheapest, but they certainly won't say "Try us, in some circumstances, we'll be cheaper, and in others, we'll be more expensive!".

So the OP made a formal complaint about the price rise!
Admiral, or anyone else for that matter can increase, reduce their prices as they see fit just as you have the choice to stay with them or move elsewhere.
What a ridiculous complaint and you must spend half your life complaining about companies increasing their prices!

That's EXACTLY what we do each year at renewal time. Everyone should do it. I saved £150 on my 'renewal invitation' quote with a 5-min search on the web!
