Santander first plus

Options
Hi,

I have this account and opened it oct 2010 with the first salary going in Nov 2010. I tried in July to get the upgraded to the proper current account as it was over 6 mths that I had it. This was rejected and was told to come in again in a few mths - think I will go in around Nov as at least it has been a good year of activity.

Just wondered how long it took people to have there account upgraded?

Cheers
Martin

The instant plus is designed for people with poor credit histories hence no overdraft or cheque book facilities.

I gathered that thanks; that wasn't question. I was asking how long it takes people to upgrade - has anyone had one of these accounts - how long did it take you to upgrade?

Santander have stopped all upgrades of the basic and instant plus account, you have to apply for a new account and get a new sort code and account number, you will also have to move DDRs and salary yourself

Sort of similar (but different) answer to today's other reply.

"Upgrading" from a banks's basic to the same bank's full service account is sometimes problammatical because the (low) account "status" trumps (good) account "conduct".

You say you are earning. Any (many?) adverse payment markers in your credit history? Depending on the answer it may be easier/quicker to apply for a different bank's base full service account e.g. Natwest/RBS Select. If you do that (I recommend selecting no overdraft initially) and are successful, the Santander card becomes a very useful card for cash, reducing the prospect of the "full" account being inadvertantly overdrawn.
