Options
Ime asking this question on behalf of a friend who has been clamped outside his (rented) house ..
Basically it will cost $100 (i dont have a pound key) for release & a $160 for the tax .. 24 hours notice befor removal to a compound..
my buddy is thinking, wots the point, it isnt worth that much anyway ..
Its been on his drive for a while, until his landlord has decided to refurb the place & he is leaving in just over a week.. there is great skip where his car used to be.. hence he put it on the rd outside..

    Who is 'them?'

Council, DVLA or a private scumbag clamper?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

If they let them take it and crush it, it may not be the end of it! They can still come after them for the unpaid tax from when it was last taxed or sorn'd and a fine.

Can't add anything more to above and your post on pepipoo.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

As has been said, if he doesn't pay the release fee and amount for the unpaid tax, he still owes money. If the vehicle is worth enough at Auction, I guess it could be sold there?

Of course they could seek to prosecute at court, in which case it would probably be more expensive!
