Responsibility for chimney flashing.

I live in a row of terrace cottages. The roofline steps up a little where the house next door starts. However my chimney is inset a little into next doors roof. The householder is a new neighbour a bit strapped for cash (aren't we all) and has just discovered he has a leak due to the bodged up 'flashing' on his side where the chimney meets his roof. A builder has been round to quote for some proper flashing.
I feel a bit sorry for him and don't know whether I should offer to pay for some of it. Or am I responsible anyway?
