Thailand Currency here or over there??

  • When I spent 6 weeks in Thailand 8 years ago cash machines were everywhere, at the time I had travellers cheques (a little old fashioned now) but they always got good rates at the banks.

These days I usually get a little backup cash for when I get there (enough for a taxi/bus sandwich/drink) and then I use my debit card at ATMs and a credit card for purchasing (I personally reject the sterling rate if pressed as the rate will be crap)..
It amazes me how many people put up with Thomas cook or travelex rates

Well I was just about to order £50 worth of bahts from TravelEx online to pick up from Airport but have decided not to know. They just just charge extra commision and admin fees then I got my own bank who will charge me an extra £2 to do business with Travelex. Its rididulus.

I think I just take all my cash and get the conversion done all there.

I am guessing the rate at Bangkok airport will not be as good as downtown Pattaya or Bangkok?
  • I think the post office carries Thai baht, yes the airport rate will likely be poor, also watch out for scams ensure you know exactly what you are changing and how much u will get

In Bali With a rate of 12,500 to pound they tried doing my friend, I calmly stated they were miss counting and I just took the sterling money back, she had a go at me for embarrassing her, as he was skilled.. But I saved her £50
Counting out thousands then into 100s instead of thousands ..

If you have a week to go you still have time to get a prepaid currency card.

Do people have advice on the next one to get and how to get one?

    thanks in advance

Travelex Cash Passport Globe ordered via TopCashBack or Quidco (if you have an existing Quidco account).

Cashback website > Travelex > Globe card.

Do not load the Prepaid card with any of these bank cards: Barclays, Lloyds TSB, Natwest, Santander or RBS. Co-op may charge too, but may refund if pressed(Simply because there is nothing in their T&Cs about this charge).
