Optimax £50 charge

I got a cold call from Optimax last week about lazer eye surgery. I've been thinking about having it for a while so I agreed to have a free check up this weekend. The last thing that the woman said to me was if I didn't turn up I would be liable for a £50 charge. I will be attending however I was wondering if I didn't how would they enforce this charge? Would they just send me a bill for £50 as I would not pay that in a million years!

  • They'll send an invoice through...like any other invoice you make a choice about whether to pay it or not. If you decide not to they can chase the debt through the courts etc...don't know how successful they'd be though.

I'd be interested to know if they have ever taken anyone to small claims etc to try to get the money and what the result was!
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

Yeah I would understand if I had phoned them up and requested an appointment, however she phoned me, I agreed as I was interested to see how much it would cost and whether I was suitable but then right at the end she goes "if you don't turn up we'll charge you £50" I don't even think she has my address! Its almost put me off going to the appointment as I don't like threats!

If this is your first contact with the company, vote with your feet and go elsewhere. You can get deals from any of the multiples.

If all she has is your phone number and name all you need to do is deny everything.

It wasn't me you spoke to, are you sure this is the number you called? etc. I'm sure you can get the idea.
