Yes Stephen I agree with academic selection but when it comes to one of only a few schools that can be so exclusive with their a grades ,the point I am making is that other factors should be considered when we are talking about children with the same academic ability. Lets face it most of the other schools are taking in children to make up the numbers so it then becomes a lottery not necessarily meaning all those children are capable for grammar school. If my child had got a c grade or b grade or even just scraped an A grade I would feel different about it. Then absolutely she was not deserving of her place! In my day u would never have got a grammar school place with anything other than An a or b!My child with such an excellent score should have been able to gain a place at her local grammar school. End of!

Did the school need to use criteria or was it highest to lowest scores accepted?? What are reasons you have been given as to why your dd hasn't been accepted??

Fourth on the waiting list for a large school sounds quite hopeful. Did the school say when the children who have been offered places have to respond by?

There are bound to be a few who change their mind or move house between now and September.

I really hope it all works out for you and, most importantly, for your dd.

Hi confused mummy highest scores only. Pmum yes but all the same not holding out much hope. I guess u can look at it from different perspectives and maybe I am just feeling so dissapointed for my daughter which is why I am a little sour grapes by the whole thing. I know I don't have anything to go on in regards of an appeal but I do believe that when schools are so oversubscribed by a grades they should take in other considerations. Hope my daughter and I will feel better soon and focus on the future as Stephen said.

We know of individuals that are granny napping and got their child a place although they live south of the border.?

Surely if this is the case that can be prooved, why don't you raise it with the principle/board?

Yes I do know of individuals that are def granny napping that live across the border and got in. How do u prove that though? Photograph them in their southern reg cars? Lol the parents use grandparents addresses in the north! Let's face it ringing the bank and changing ur address or putting phone bill in your name isn't difficult!

Congrats to all who got their places, I went through this hell last year with my son and it was not a pleasant experience :( Thankfully he got his place even thou I thought his score was too low. The advantage of a less well subscribed school I suppose :o

Caz, I really feel for you, I know the school you are talking about and friends and relatives of mine have had an equally hard time trying to get their children into it, all got great scores, but because Daddy wasn't a Doctor or Solicitor they did not get a place :(

1 glimmer of hope for you is that my sons school had to check residence at the registration evening to stop "granny napping" this may put people who have an offered place off and allow your daughter her rightful place in the school she wants to go to.
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

How on earth does a parent's occupation get a child a place at any school?

If you are suggesting that the child of a doctor or lawyer was given a place ahead of a child with a higher score then the parents involved should contact the press.

This was the case with the school before the new transfer procedure took affect but its not the case anymore. Stevey is referring to his friends that might have went through it more than three years ago when it really was a lottery! However back then it wasn't as oversubscribed either I guess!
