Silicone Sealants - Are they all the same or not?

I've just finished off fitting a bathroom at home, I want to seal the bath which houses a shower and also the tiled edges. At home I have Unibond Kitchen and Bathroom sealant which is shown here....

But, as it doesn't mention showers, is it suitable to use in the shower area, or should I go out and buy this?:

Thanks...

If there's a possibility that the bath might move/settle then you might want to consider this:

I can't use that now as I've tiled right down to the bath... The unibond is flexible aparently. I'm just concerned the one I have doesn't mention suitable for showers...

A small tip fill the bath when you do the sealing let it go off then empty the bath so if you use the bath it shouldnt split. Ive used those aerosol sealents in the bathroom round the bath without problems. the only thing I notice is it went black pretty quick.
  • Have just done all of my bathroom and regularly do jobs for others.
I can recommend SCREWFIXS own "No nonsense sanitary sealant".
It contains a fungicide which stops it discolouring, is flexible and is fairly cheap for a cartridge. You will need a gun to apply it, but I find they give you more control over the amount that is discharged.

A few tips for using silicone:

Have a pot with meths close by and a rag for clearing up smears.
    Always use masking tape
Handy tools for forcing the silicon into gaps are a plastic glue spreader (the type provided for children to use); and/or an old, thin, credit card (scrape first to get off any paint lacquer).
  • I'd definately choose a good brand, anti-fungal silicone - I've used cheaper ones in the past, and as in another post, they go mouldy or split quickly!!

I used a good brand anti fungal on my shower 6 years ago, and it's still as white as the day it was put down...

It's the type of job you only want to do once - not ever year or so!! - Do it well, and spend a little more on the PROPER stuff! - That's the only advice I can give from experience...

  • DEFO USE GOOD QUALITY BRAND. Spend a few quid on it and that way you know you have only to do it once.

MAKE SURE ITS RESISTANT TO MOLD! It'll go black in no time otherwise.

Also fill the bath before you seal it so it is weighted down. That way you wont stretch it every time you hop in and bath!
