Xpelair fan

Hi, we've just had an Expelair fan put in the kitchen (through the wall). The flaps on the outside that are like louvres don't open when it's switched on. I can't understand how the steam can get out without the flaps opening?
Could someone explain this to me or is there something wrong? TIA.

  • Either they're gravity weighted and will blow open when the fan comes on (and rattle in the wind) or they have a solenoid and should open with a 'snap!' when the fan comes on.

If they're the solenoid type and don't open then the solenoid might not have been connected.

Beware ! some solenoid ones have a slow open and close damper so they dont always snap open and closed.
