    Hi matt!:hello:
Bless you hun - I hope it helped a little.;) The guys on here really are amazing.:T

Wow - Tiff THANK YOU for that incredible post. You guys are wonderful :o This certainly has oponed me up to what I'm dealing with and that maybe accepting help would be good. I had no idea there was so much help available either! As Tiff said, I was just scared that I'd be locked up in a mental hospital for however many days and given injections and what not.
It can be a real shock to finally realise that you may have a mental ill health issue matt - but it's not the end of the world as we know it hun.;) You will get through this angel.
The Victorian days are long gone hun. There's no cattle prods or electric wires used either.;)

The point of mental health in general angel is to keep you safe. I can tell you that mental health clinics are monitored for standards. You would get your own room, bit like a hotel room with usually a shower and toilet ensuite (I haven't even got that at home!:D ), common rooms, TV rooms, gardens, scheduled activities, nurses who will sit down and talk to you and explain things if you ask them, night or day. You've got an on-site medical team to work WITH you and they would want you well enough to be out and back home as soon as possible. That's what a modern mental health clinic is like.
So, if you were to go for a few days hun, it's not terrible. The main thing is that you'd be with specialists who know how you're feeling. Again, you must be totally honest with them if it's to work.

This new GP just doesn't seem "nice". I hate rude people and I can never deal with them - I just hate being around people like that. Like on my 1st driving test, I had this old man who would only open his mouth to say right or left 2 secs before the end of the rd...made me feel so erm...uncomfortable. But the next time I had a lovely lady who kept talking to me about off topic things like the awful weather and I felt really relaxed - passed with 3 minors!
Sometimes when we're ill matt, we're even more sensitive than we usually are. I'm sorry you feel like that about your gp hun. You are quite entitled to see any other dr at the practice angel.;)

Anyway, I think I'm going to go about this on my own because I do want to sort it out and I have exams in just uner 2 months! I already have 2 A grades so even with all this pressure I managed to pull through. Now, as Tiff said, I want my "normal" life back....not be seen as a moron before going off to uni and be 110% sociable and not worry about anything.
Good ambitions and if you follow the mental health team's suggestions matt, you'll likely succeed. Try not to think of doing things on your own hun. If you haven't got experience with mental ill health, then it's good to have professionals helping you. I want to encourage you angel, but not set you up for a fall.;)

In your experience, how long can these things take to cure/treat? If any of you have gone through medication specifically targetted at depression or my sort of condition (pressure maybe?) could you please tell me whether you feel there has been definitive progress? Has the medication been effective in decreasing or ecen wiping out your depression?
This will not make you a happy bunny hun but it's a different experience for everyone. We are all individuals and have different body chemistry if we have to take a tablet. There are also many kinds of depression and mental ill health problems. There are also many kinds of medication. So there's no answer to that hun and I know it's what we all want to know when we first become poorly.
However, some people recover quickly and others learn how to manage their health issues. You are not going to be a freak hun, either way.
Matt, I'll be honest with you. I can't guarantee that you'll be back on your feet in 2 weeks or how your situation will go. There are some people with depression who learn to beat it and live with it. They have ups and downs but they are in control and know what to do. Everything is an unknown quantity angel really, except for the fact that the professionals can help. But this is better than feeling scared, alone and unable to cope.

Lastly, I know many of you have gone through what I'm about to go through....so could anyone please tell me what kind of schedule I can expect for the next few weeks or so? I'm going to change GP today or tomorrow and tell them eveyrthing...gonna seek help....what is likely to happen next?
    No hun, I can't really.
I've been through one or two awful things and I've been poorly for a long time - but that's me. My meds/treatment is for me. Mental ill health does not affect your intelligence angel.
This thread has been viewed by over 42,000 people matt so you're not alone hun.
The fact that the wonderful people on this thread are here is a testimony to the fact that you can survive and be happy. (Everybody be happy!):D ;) And despite what they're going through, they come on here and help others.:A

It's likely that you'll see a professional for an assessment first matt and then they'll talk to you about your options.
They may, or may not, suggest a stay in a clinic.
They may decide that you can stay at home and receive help from the Crisis Team (they support you if you're very poorly and try to avoid admission to a clinic where they can.), or counselling, or medication or all of the above hun.

It'll be whatever's best for you angel and they will consult your wishes too. Again, I want to encourage you but I'll also remind you that it's not a case of having measles and you'll be better in 3 weeks situation.

Try and do some relaxation exercises as often as you can hun - lie down comfortably, listen to some relaxing instrumental music, let go, stop thinking and just lie there daydreaming. You may even fall asleep.;) This can work wonders.

So hun, listen to all the suggestions and take it from there. Don't start building up any pre-conceived ideas just in case they don't happen as you saw them, and then you take a fall. Be open-minded and honest and take each part as it comes. And remember angel, they all want you feeling better as quickly as possible and they've seen it all before so try not to be too scared matt - it's help, not hurt sweetheart.hug.gif
Post all you want hun and keep communicating with the family and professionals matt - they know what they're talking about.;) Take care hun.
    Much Love,
    Tiff xxx

    Hi hun,

Glad you're still posting - THis forum can be a real lifesaver. I agree with everythig thats been said already and I just wanted to add a couple of points.

You will certainly not be seen as a moron - Mental health has NOTHING to do with intelligence so don't worry about that.

Once you have been seen by your GP/ Mental health Team, I would consider discussing your options with your school - You may not be well enough to take your exams in 2 months and certainly not do your best - Maybe defer?

As for how long it takes - Well its different for everyone, I'm afraid so none of us can predict your recovery.
But follow your care teams advice and you will get better

I reiterate that meds take about 6 weeks to work properly so try not to feel downheated if you don't feel better straight away!

Good luck with the change of GP - Is there another doctor at your practice that you can see? Much quicker than changing practice?

    Take care hun

    much love
