How to pay £0.02???

Hi all

I now owe the grand sum of £0.02 on my account to Wescot. I cant send a bill payment or set up a standing order as Santander's smallest amount that can be sent is £1. I have tried making an online payment via their website, again, the smallest amount that can be taken is £1.

I have been in contact with them to see if they wanted to write it off or how to send this, they have responded with the bank details - so I guess they want that £0.02!

As I see it, I have a couple of options:

Send a £0.02 cheque (however, my cheque book is at work and I am on leave until September)

Go and get a postal order (which means I pay £0.52 for their fees, plus postage)

Send them a 2p stamp? (if these exist any more? Im sure I read somewhere that they can be accepted as payment but I cant remember the rules on this.)

Or send them a 2p coin in the mail?

I'm almost tempted to go with the overkill method and send a 2p stamp, and a 2p coin. It would be a lot easier as I'm going to the post office anyway. For some reason, I'm loathe to send a whole pound to pay it, I've got it in my head to clear debts FAST and that extra £0.98 could be thrown at a credit card instead. :rotfl:

What would you do?

  • Send it as a 2p peice in the mail. Don't pay for postage - they will have to go and collect it from the PO to pick it up - which they probably will incase it's a big cheque waiting for them.

Either that or don't bother paying it, get them to send a debt collector round and hand him the 2p when he's on your doorstep.

Or let them take you to court for the 2p.

Send a pound, then invoice them for 98p - put the boot on the other foot!

  • Get a friend to write a cheque to them for 2p and pay the friend the cash.

Or do what I actually did when I had 1p left in a Woolwich account, and they refused to close it, unless I returned the cheque book which I told them I didn't have.

I just let them write to me for years, sending statements about this 1p, reporting on how it was doing, informing me of changes in rates. Idiots.

Yes, I know it's 2p you owe them, not the other way round, but you see what I mean. :rotfl:

I would do this - it would probably cost them far more in admin costs than it's worth!

I would ask for their bank details and send them the 2p via internet banking.

Would be very tempted to pay a pound and invoice them though. You could have lots of fun sending threatening letters :rotfl:

Get a friend to write 2 x 1p cheques - they'll pay a fee for each cheque deposited.

According to their website you can pay at a local Paypoint shop if you have a barcoded letter. That will deffo cost them more in fees. "If you require a barcoded letter please telephone one of our recovery agents on 0844 824 1155."

    saynoto0770 suggests 01482 483250, 590500, 590590 or 0800 0920035 as alternatives.
