  • With all of the greatest of respects I agree it is very inconvenient and a tad embarrassing - But would you rather have some of the transactions to have gone through IF the card had been stolen for example?

It would be a total reverse of what people have been saying here - I've had my card declined in the UK not alone abroad as I often go to my home town to see family and friends and this has been classed as out of my usual spending habits.

I also make a lot of internet transactions and these sometimes get blocked also for the very same reason.

Best take a nice selection of plastic and a bit of cash to be on the safe side - Or withdraw cash and keep this in the hotel safe and take it out as you require.

They are only trying to keep your money safe at the end of the day, they are sadly not mind readers.

Well, those transactions wouldn't be the liability of the OP. But that's the point really. It's an easy call for the banks.

On a legitimate transactions, CCs make a slither of profit. On a fraudulent transaction the loss can be a huge multiple.

So any doubt at all, or any break in the chain of authorisation through different networks and jurisdictions results in a fail-safe to decline.
  • HELP!
If you've lost money on this, which I suspect you have, to get any form of compensation from Halifax, I'd consider writing everything out in concise chronological order and send it to them, keeping a copy of course, as you may need it if you wish to take it further.
  • sorry not sure if i pointed out in my original post that i did contact halifax telling them i would be going abroad on two occasions.

It turns out even though when i phoned from india and they said there was nothing wrong with my cards after 8 days of investigation from customer care who were very helpful I recieved compensation to cover my flights and extra for alll the inconvenience caused! :T
