Successful exercise plan for weight loss

Hello,
To all those who have successfully used an exercise routine to loose weight, what commitment did you have to give.
I am looking to do an hour a day, 4 days a week (classes, gym, walking). And I want to loose about 3 stones. The only exercise I do at the moment is walking around town during my lunch hour.
My diet is not too bad but I will be trying to work to the SW rules.
I am female aged 44, currently 15stone wearing a size 16/18 dress size.
Any stories of successful weight loss would be gratefully received.
Thank you
Susanna

i've been doing slimming world for 13 months now and have lost over 4 stone. I started walking before breakfast in March - just a quick 10 minute walk (nothing strenuous) over the park. I now walk for an hour in the morning - i've built it up gradually and my bum and legs are much more toned. I started off last year as a size 22/24, 5'4" weighing 17 stone 9.5llbs! I am 49 yeras old.
And I feel SO much better!
I haven't done any exercise classes - the only other exercise I do is cycling - i go most places locally by bike.
Good luck - let us know how you get on! And if you're going by SW rules then why not jin the tread on here? We're a very friendly bunch and very supportive of each other!:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
Am afraid no excercise routine won't work unless you diet... excersice helps but it's not enough to lose weight by itlself.0

I've been doing a zumba for the wii routine every other day or jillian michaels 30 day shred on the days inbetween. They both take about half an housr and really get you sweating!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170

Hi there
I had similar stats to you and I have lost over 4 stone with slimming world, I have been taking the scenic route and its taken me about 18 months but its making it easier for me to stick to, the first 3 stone were quite quick but it was joining the gym that got me the last stone. I started doing Zumba twice a week and now do it twice, bodypump twice and body attack once a week and I love it, i never thought I would say it.
This past 6 weeks I haven't lost weight but I have been losing inches so I'm not too worried but I would recommend Slimming World to everyone it's brilliant. Good luck with it all, it makes such a difference.:D0 -
Unless your going to go all out hardcore exercise ala biggest loser it will not help you much to loose weight. Weight loss is 90% about what you eat.
Exercise primarily to get healthy.
Eat the foods we are evolved to eat and your body will readjust your weight to what it should be naturally with out ever getting hungry or needing any will power0 -
a friend of mine is doing couch to 5k and is losing LOADS, she is also following a health eating plan given to her by either her doctor or the hospital. She's loosing weight for an operation.0

Right, well it's difficult to lose weight through exercise but it's not impossible. You will probably find that if you are concentrating on fitness etc that your diet naturally changes anyway, even if it's just that if you are usually munching on toast after work before tea you won't be doing that if you're in a zumba class!
To lose 1lb of fat you need to burn 3500 calories. So intense exercise in the form of aerobics/zumba etc. you are looking at one hour burning 500 calories. Yes, there are claims of various exercise regimes being high calorie burners but you have to be doing these without resting and to the max of your ability. But bigger people burn more calories than small anyway.
So if you want to lose 1lb per week you need to not be overeating and be doing 7 hours per week.
A combination is best and I would advise if this is for good then don't go hell for leather on the exercise OR the diet as you will always be looking at it as a project rather than a lifestyle.0 -
Last year I dropped 4 stone and have maintained this for 7 months, I am now just trying to lose the last stone!
I went from size 18 to currently 12
I had tried many other fads/ diets but what worked for me was to excersise 3-4 times a week at gym, on cross trainer, rowing
BUT ALSO I had to watch my food intake, I didnt eat more that 1650 cals a day & drink plenty of water.0 -
I would suggest thinking about resistance/weights training. I know it's a bit scary to start with but honstly I think it's one of the best things you can do. Yes do a bit of cardio for calorie burning but using weights changes the whole structure of your body.
I would also suggest thinking about compound exercises once you get into things - eg weight bearing exercise using your whole body - squats and weights for example. It's quite intensive but helps to strengthen your whole body.
And keep focused on what you're doing, once you let your focus drop you're dead in the water.
Good luck
Oh as a PS, obviously more fruit and veg and pulses is good! And the other thing I've found really useful is a concept is to pay attention to 'domino foods' ie the kind of food that when you eat it you find it very hard to stop. So before you have that first crisp/biscuit/piece of chocolate or whatever your food is, be aware that you aren't just having one piece you're actually going to eat it until you feel sick. Know this. It doesn't always stop you but it does give you pause for thought!0 -
Another thing with regards to exercise. It really is hard work and that's what often leads to people feeling that they've burnt off a lot more calories than they think. So do be very wary of eating more as a result of exercising as that's a very common trap to fall into.
Having a banana and a cereal bar that you wouldn't have eaten if you hadnt been exercising that day is needless extra intake of food - just try to manage your dietary habits so that you have something a couple of hours before working out.0
