Cat proofing a garden

Does anyone have any handy hints as to what kind of brackets and mesh can be used to do this? Particularly the brackets which need to be an open angle of about 135 degrees?
Oh and it is to keep my cats IN, not so much other cats OUT.

No advice to give but will be watching this thread as i want to stop my cats getting out when we do decide to let them out. I have a smallish yard which has brick walls all the way round.0

Yeah, I want to catproof my back garden too, to keep the little blighters in... either that or ban all vehicles within a five mile radius of wherever I live, which obviously isn't going to happen.
I'll be watching this thread with interest. Sorry, I've not got anything useful to add.0 -

May be of interest.
There's also a system with a rotating pole but I imagine it would be very expensive.Norn Iron Club member 4730 -

Looks like a good way to keep the neighbours cats in if they pop over as well.0 -
I dont know if they do them for cats but sonic collars seem to work for a couple of dogs that I know of, they just wont go past their range even if the gate is left open.0

The purrfect fence system look good....but is an American company and I cannot see any info about UK stockists. The rotating pole system IS expensive at around £85 per metre. I think I have found a good DIY plan which someone over on Purrs kindly posted

I plan to use deer netting ( or similar )http://www.boddingtons-ltd.com/acatalog/multi-purpose-netting.html and building straps bent to make brackets

Once a few climbing plants cover it a little I think it should look pretty good.0 -

Purr…fect Fence systems and accessories are now stocked in Felixstowe, England for shipments throughout Great Britain, Scotland and Ireland as well as other European countries….0 -
Looks like a great system, not sure how I can fix it to the areas of fence that have concrete posts though.:mad:0

I will be doing this next year! I have 7 indoor cats and I would like them to go out in our courtyard garden. We are making all the fences very high and we are putting flower boxes at the very top of the fences/ walls which stick out so they can't climb over (hopefully) I am going to use the rotating poles/kitty clips for other areas and am generally trying to think it out though there is only one test!! I do like our garden though so I want it to look nice not just functional, time will tell! Must say though as they are indoor cats only 1 or 2 will even stray into the garden if the doors are left open so not sure how keen they will be on this or how long it will take for them to try and escape if ever. Still a while off before we test it thoMortgage November 2003 was £135k, but thanks to this website on 28/08/12 we became MORTGAGE FREE!
Now just over 2 years we have taken on the challenge again! )(starting £237k Nov 2014) Current mortgage £232,399.82, current overpayment total £1550, years remaining= 170 -
I have four cats but daren't let them out into the street as we have idiots that think that doing 70 in a 30 zone is quite acceptable. I learnt this lesson the hard way a few years back
Fortunately I had already installed a 6' feather-edge fence all the way around so no problems with ownership or permissions. My yard isn't large - around 15' by 18' but I didn't want my solution to look too out-of place. Putting up an internal vertical net fence would be awkward and would reduce the ground space too much. I opted, instead, to run netting around the fence top angled inward at 90 degrees to the vertical. I obtained some different coloured netting of various grades of coarseness and, after much experimentation, chose a fairly fine black net. As my runs along each edge were fairly short I simply ran heavy duty coated garden wire around 16 inches in from each fence top. I came up with 16" because the mesh was 36" wide and I needed a few inches to anchor it on the fence. The back run was easy to fix to the side fences at each end but the side runs from the house to the back fence needed support at the house end so added a simple support rail between the house and the side path fence. Once the wires were in place and sufficiently tensioned I simply draped the mesh over the wire and evened it up like you would when hanging a sheet on a washing line. Using a heavy-duty staple gun I then lifted and tacked the open edges of the mesh close to the top of the fence all the way around. You have to do a few hospital corners where the side and back fences meet but it's not complicated.
So far I've had no escapees - but don't forget to check the installation regularly and keep snow clear - although it's surprising how much weight it can take. It doesn't look too obtrusive either. If you have longer runs then you'll need to support the wires in places but be careful that you don't put something up that'll poke someone’s eye out. Total cost for a 50' solution including staple gun, netting, wire and end-supports was around £80.0
