Problem with spam filters in Gmail blocking my online memberships

Since I signed up to gmail I have not been able to receive any incoming email from the various subscriptions and memberships I have to various online groups. They all seem to be stopped by its spam filters. You can have too much of a good thing! Anyone know a way round this?

Have you gone to the spam folder (left hand side, under "6 more" on my gmail account) flagged the emails and clicked the "Not Spam" button?0

Unfortunately they are not even making it as far as my spam folder, I think they are getting blocked further upstream......0
