Asda bread flour doubling in price!

Asda do this at times, and as stated it "rolls back" in fortnight or so
Just go somewhere else, like Lidl
Morrison's increased the price recently, I noticed at the weekend it is back to 68p
Shop around is the watch wordNumerus non sum0 -
Kaz, what's half and half bread like -does it make very different bread, or is it more difficult to work with?....and wow, congratulations on your signature!
Ooops, not ignoring you, sorry
we must have cross posted!
I've not had the best results with half and half bread to be honest but then all of my bread seems to be hit and miss. For instance, the last 3 loaves I made were quite flat despite having a really long rise time. When I first used the recipe, the bread was wonderful. It rose to give an enormous loaf of bread which was shouting from the kitchen "Look at me, I'm great, I am!". I will keep trying though and next time I have to go out anywhere, I will check out the prices on different brands of bread flour. Not making a special trip out for it at the moment as there is no need.
Thanks for the compliment on my sig, it's been a long hard slog to get to where we are now and we hope to be clear by 22/05/2013. It is a very difficult time financially at present and we haven't had a foreign holiday for a few years. We managed a good deal to Legoland and a weekend at Woodlands this year which were both lovely but DH does dream of having 2 weeks in the sun
I ought to update it though as I haven't done for a wee while. (Sorry for being OT!).
Can't remember who said about the SEL but it is definately not a misprice. When I went on Sunday, they had hidden the barcode with a label stating it was out of stock. They have now moved the shelves around as if that's going to stop you noticing a massive price hike!
Hopefully Tesco will have the bread flour cheaper but from memory, one lead the way and the others all followed

Lol, I didn't think you were ignoring me deliberately! I am a bit hit and miss with bread making too so I think based on what you've said above I won't experiment with half and half- it would be just another thing to go wrong.
I am going to asda tonight so I will definitely pop a couple of bags of mread flour in the trolley- just in case.;)0 -
It's still currently 68p in Tesco. Stocked up in case they decide to put their price up as well. Thanks to all the lovely people on here I have managed to cut my hours down to 2 days a week, allowing me to spend more time with my gorgeous Children. :j0

It is still 68p in my local Asda, I just wonder if they are targeting certain stores to comply with consumer law about higher price for 30 days or whatever it is, before announcing a massive "price cut" to 68p?Numerus non sum0

I store mine in airtight kilner jars.
I have a sneaky suspicion that home made bread can end up more expensive - factoring in the cost of baking and the fact that it is just too tempting to have a great warm wedge straight out the oven and dripping with butter.
However at least you know what goes into it and you don't get that nasty cotton wool consistency..0 -
I think I'd costed it at £7 for 12 loaves or thereabouts. Although now I write that down it doesn't look right. Hmmm, 3 loaves per 1.5kg bag. 2tbs yeast per batch. So 9 batches per tin. So 1 tin of yeast (68p) and 9 bags of flour (£6.12) total £6.80 for 27 loaves of bread. 26 pence per loaf not counting the cost of fuel. Half the 52p/loaf I'd worked out. What on earth was I thinking? I suppose at least with the price shooting up, I'll be spending what I thought it was

If you do buy flour in bulk, do look at the other flour thread - you need to freeze it for a while. The weevil eggs are in it when you buy it, and need discouragement.....:(
It always makes me sad when I see flour at a reasonable price and I can't stock up too much - there is never room in our freezer! :rotfl:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
I remember Tesco did this a little while ago I nearly fainted when it literally doubled overnight..I'd got used to paying 43p for it then it crept up to 54p then £1.12 overnight  seems to have settled back at 68p there again for now.
My one currently has stock in marked up June 2012 I store mine in Lock'n'locks and have never had trouble using 'old' flour or with weevils thankfully *fingers crossed*0 -
I got mine from asda yesterday and it was still 68p:question:...does this mean it will be more expensive when i next buy it0
