Voluntary Severance on Mat Leave

Hi there

Is it true that if on maternity leave you cannot apply for voluntary redundancy? if so can you apply for voluntary severance?

Currently 10 weeks into my maternity leave, my employer is offering both vol redundancy & vol severance and I would quite like to leave but would be better off money wise with the vol severance package.

What are my rights whilst on maternity leave and is there any pitfalls I should be aware of before I make any enquiries?

Thanks for reading.

  • I took voluntary redundancy at Christmas whilst on maternity. Yes you are allowed so long as they let you. Voluntary severance only applies if you are near retirement age, which I assume you're not if your having a baby!

Your rights are much the same other than they dont have to keep a job for you as you will have no post to return to. You should get what you are entitled to re maternity pay be it statutory or contractual.

AFAIK, early retirement is a *form* of VS, but VS can apply to anyone at any age if a company is looking to make cuts. :)

Sorry, OP, I can't answer your question, though. :)
