Travel Insurance for a trip lasting 10 months

I've looked at the small print for some annual travel insurance policies and they all seem to require UK residence for 6 of the last 12 months. I'm about to go abroad (to several EU countries and possibly some outside Europe) for the next 10 months and wonder what the best (cheapest!) insurance solution is. Expat medical insurance works out at £800+ which is just ridiculous.
Thanks,
Andrew

Look up backpacker insurance which offers cover for continuous stays abroad unlike annual policies that are designed for several shorter trips during the year. Some backpacker policies have low age limits.0
