i've damaged my laptop but not sure how? any ideas please?

I thought i had broken my screen so hooked up my laptop to a monitor but nothing comes up - the monitor stays blank, how do i check if its the monitor thats faulty?

With my laptop - I can't see anything on the screen but windows starts fine etc. i just can't see anthing, so i thought connecting to a monitor would work, but it doesn't seem to be, how else might i have damaged the laptop when i broke the screen?

Any idea please? Thanks...

I'm going to try and hook up someobe else's laptop to the monitor to check if thats working ok...

To get a laptop to display on an external screen, sometimes you have to use a toggle key, Fn+F8 on most Dells, to cycle around the external display options

thanks - it works now but intially the display was so dark i could hardly see it, after messing around in control panel - display, its a bit better and i can see the screen but its still very dark, are there any other setiings that people might know of that i should change?

Laptops have brightness keyboard combinations sometimes, have a look for a legend on the keys, also there should be a brightness adjustment button sequence on the monitor itself

how do i look for the legend on the laptop keys?

there isnt a brightness adjustment button on the monitor, only options for size and position, geometry and degauss

its gone back t obeing really dark so the improvement i had yesterday has gone!! and i haven't changed anything...
