ivf drugs

anyone know the cheapest place to buy ivf drugs on private prescription? we need gonal f and synarel plus other stuff. apparently there is a huge difference in prices depending on which pharmacy/supplier you use.

i work for tesco pharmacy and we charge the cost of the drug + 20% as a rough guide, you shouldn't have to pay vat on a private prescription. most chemists charge a similar amount. please don't buy from abroad unless you know what you are getting.
  • thanks for replying. i dont spose you have any idea of an overall package,we already had one attempt at a reputable clinic in norway and we bought them over there for £855. looking at other ivf chat forums this seems very cheap but obviously would involve flying back to norway. cant find manufacturers site to buy direct.

it depends on the drugs, some drugs are only avail to hospitals and not chemist shops. and i doubt that you would be able to buy direct as they will prob only supply to hospitals/chemists and wholesalers.
if you get me the details i will price them up at work.
  • we need 2x synarel nasal sprays (60 doses per bottle) and 1x 900 iu + 1x 300 iu gonal f injection pens. also 2 boxes (15 per box) crinone gel. thanks again for taking the time to help :0)

I phoned round all the local chemists within 30 mile radious as of 3 years ago it varied over £250 .boots worked out the cheapest . Your fertility clinic might be able to sell them cheaper ?
The chemists do let you barter a bit and will phone back with a price. Dont forget the chemist attached to drs surgeries.
The mistake I made was the clinic gave me a huge perscription which I never used as had to abandon treatment when we tried for another baby .
in the end I ended up having to throw out over £500 of metrogene and provera as went out of date .
The chemist can get in quite quickly within 24 hours so to same money keep an eye on how much you need.
good luck hope all goes well .
    fingers crossed

I approached my GP & they wrote an NHS prescription for me even tho' I was having the treatment privately - have you tried your GP?
  • thanks heather, much appreciated. tracy,we tried gp,we also had a lot of bad experiences with our local nhs consultant who seems to have been stringing us along for over a year(we think to keep us off a waiting list ) so we ended up private in norway and can highly recommend it to anyone considering ivf.
