Covering up damp wall

I'm trying to do things to make living in my old rented cottage just that little bit pleasanter until hopefully I move next year. The roof above one of the rooms is leaking and while water isn't exactly pouring in, it is making that wall very damp with black streaks. When I painted it the emulsion remained wet enough to get it on your hands.

I'm working on the landlord to get it fixed, however until then is there some way I can cover the damp patches so I can paint over and at least it will look ok. Luckily this room isn't used much (spare bedroom). I've seen paint or spray-on damp covering stuff in B and Q but wonder if it would work on an area like this. Even just a temporary fix that I have to keep re-applying would be fine as it doesn't have to last for ever - either I will move on or the landlord will get his finger out!! I just don't want to get emulsion on my clothes if I brush past all the time!

Thanks
