you can learn more here http://www.apple.com/uk/appletv/

and watch a video review of it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKqa!!!uXcU and watch more video reviews for the UK here as watching the american reviews is useless as in the UK you cannot use netflix ect.

you use it to play video and music you have in itunes on your computer you can also view photos from your computer on it,
if you have an ipod touch, iphone or ipad you can use it to stream audio and video from that using airplay.

the bit about 'renting' movies from the itunes store is pretty rubbish as they are pretty expensive and are only 720p.
  • thanks just seen they are cheap...e/bay wondered what they did useless to me have a samsung galaxy.

You can jailbreak it an install XBMC and it will stream from pretty much any source. Useful if you have a NAS or computer on your network that has a load of video files you might want to watch in your living room, but don't want a computer sat underneath the tv. Only outputs at 720p though.

Avoid Apple TV at the moment, massive problems with airplay and home sharing, meant to be improved with iOS5, but that hasn't been confirmed. When working it will be great for only £100... I've had mine since Feb and am getting slowly annoyed with it

connection drop outs but only in homesharing. If im jumping on youtube or the movies stuff it's great, but in trying to view my photos from iPhoto, doesnt want to know. When watching programs or films that are on my Mac it loses connection every 20 minutes, to get it back i have to go upstairs to my mac, turn off homesharing, turn it back on, input iTunes password...
