How can I set up BT B Band without a cd drive?

Hi my elderly parents have decided to sign upto Bt Total Broadband and all the 'stuff' arrived today. My mother failed to tell me that the cdrom drive doesn't work so I couldn't set it up for her. How can I get this working without using the cd?

TIA

    1. go round the house and fit microfilters to things as necessary
    2. plug router into phone line
    3. plug computer ethernet into router ethernet
    4. plug router into mains
    5. wait until the lights stop flashing
    6. open web browser
    7. if router is not connected to internet it should give the web browser a setup page where you put in the broadband user name and password into the router
    8. if web browser is IE, download decent web browser (Thunderbird or Opera)
    9. update antivirus software

+1 for that, you don't need the BT CD. at all and it can cause problems. See here

    except:
Step 8 should be Firefox or Opera :).
Step 8.5 install Thunderbird email client

To connect via Ethernet cable - nothing to do, just plug it in and open a web browser such as Internet explorer or Firefox.
To connect via wireless see here

I connected to Home Hub wireless on a Windows 7 laptop without using the BT CD. Easy - no problems. The wireless key is printed on a card in the home hub box.

Agree with the above, the CD install is not required. But you can change the CD drive in the PC yourself-very cheap to buy and a 20 minute job to do.

    +1 for without the CD.

There's more detailed guides and specialised forums out there, google "bt homehub install" or variations to find them

Wireless key is on the back of my parents home hub on the wee plate.

Well I am at the point of pulling my hair out!

The wireless card is not allowing access to the internet.

I have tried to configure it but don't know what I'm doing. The funny thing is, the computer will connect to the Talktalk internet from the cafe across the road without any problems at all. (Mum would not use their internet as she claimed it was stealing)

It won't connect using the wire or the wireless.

I'm totally fed up, having wasted all afternoon and still no further ahead.

PS thanks for all the suggestions I have followed them to the letter

    OK let's take this slowly:

    First,
Has the broadband been activated? BT has been known to send the kit out before the line has been activated.

    Second,
This will ensure that the hub is working and does not need a computer.
    1) Plug in filters between every telephone socket and telephone (including a sky box if there is one)
    2) Check that the phones are still working.
    3) Connect the thin 4-way cable between the ADSL socket on the filter and the Broadband socket on the BT hub.
    4) Do not connect the telephone or computer to the hub
    5) Connect the Power supply to the BT hub and switch it on

Eventually you should see 3 steady blue lights: Power, broadband and wireless.
The broadband light will be orange at the start and will flash for several minutes before connecting. After that it should be steady blue.

Let us know what happens with the lights.
Without the steady blue broadband light it's pointless going further.

What sort of hub is it (mine says BT home hub 2.0 on the box)

Thank you! Yep, tried all that. the hub is BT 3.0

My sisters iphone will connect and my old laptop will connect with an ethernet lead (not wireless enabled).Mum has 2 PC's. One will connect with the ethernet lead (not wireless enabled) the favourite one will not connect at all. A linksy wireless card has been put into the favourite PC and will connect th Talktalk from the cafe nearby.

So hub is working. Favourite PC can connect tro the hub but not the internet. I have fiddled about and there is somewhere where you can select 'automatically find IP address' that is the bit that's not working....IP address is 00000000000

    Thanks
