South facing roof not mandatory?0 -
There are thousands of posts on this and similar systems in the Green section. Also Martin has written an article about the system which is refered to as 'Rent a Roof'.
In essence you sign a legally binding agreement with the 'Rent a Roof' company lasting for 25 years allowing the company to install solar panels on your roof - the agreement is binding on the next owner if you sell.
The company get all the subsidies for the electricity it generates(which is about £1,500 a year). You are allowed to have whatever electricity from the panels you can use. Bear in mind that the panels don't generate after dark and very little on cloudy days. On average you will be able to use electricity worth approx £70 a year.0
