Website/webhosting questions for beginner

Hi, I have a few beginner questions about websites etc :

- I'm currently looking for a web host but to be honest there are so many. Some I've looked at are:
http://www.ipage.com/ipage/index.html
http://www.webhosting.uk.com/
http://www.justhost.com/
http://www.hostpapa.co.uk/
Which one do you think is the best? Or do you recommend another?

- Domain names....who do you recommend?
Looking at this one currently: http://www.123-reg.co.uk/

- Finally, does anyone recommend a good cheap php/mysql site?

Sorry for all these questions but I am a complete novice at websites/webhosting!

for hosting i use dreamhost and for the domain itself id use godaddy and look out for a discount code. (there is one on the london tube right now if you text in for £1 .com or .co.uk) dreamhost is about $10 a month but you can host unlimited sites and handles most cms's you can throw at it. and they allow unlimited mysql databases.

I can vouch for 123-reg both for domains and hosting. I also use Webfusion for hosting aswell.

To be honest you are going things about backwards.... you dont get your hosting until you have gotten your site as you wont know your full requirements until then.

A site for what? Are you really asking for a designer/ developer rather than a site? Why PHP/ MySQL? Why not PHP/ PostgreSQL or .Net/ MySQL?
  • Take a look at Wordpress.com. It's free and may suit your needs.

I use a US site called Jumpline. Very reasonable and excellent support.
