Pendant light replacement?

The Pendant light in our bedroom hasn't worked for few years since someone tried to fit a SBC bulb into a standard BC fitting and with a spark cut out the electric.
The pendant fitting has been sunk into the plasterwork and then sealeds all around, so preferably I'd like to not have to touch the fitting itself.
Is there any chance that this is simply a new bayonet fitting that is needed, or am I going to have to cut the whole damn fitting out of the ceiling.

Do you have a photo? That might make is clearer. As you probably know, a light fitting generally screws through the plasterboard and into a joist close to the cable.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

No picture I'm afraid.
Imagine as you have said, that in the normal case the fitting is screwed into a joist with the plasterboard in between, but in this instance the fitting is screwed directly to the joist, and the plasterboard is around the fitting.
(it is slightly different as the fitting is screwed to the joist and they have plastered around the fitting (lath and plaster ceiling))0 -
Well it is very easy to test. Have you tried replacing the hanging part with a new one? Or checking the wires in the bulb holder? Obviously turn off the power at the fusebox first, and use a torch as a light source.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Not dome anything to it yet apart from test a BC buld in it and there's nothing.
I'll try replacing the bulb holder first, if it's not that then I'll have to cut out the whole fitting from the plasterwork.
