Howdens units / integrated microwave

Hi,
We're getting our new kitchen from Howdens, who have told us that they don't have wall units for integrated microwaves (they only have tower units for them). I was thinking of getting an ikea wall unit and using Howdens side panels and buying an integrated microwave separately. But I think the ikea wall unit is deeper (370mm vs 290mm). Does anyone have any other ideas that could help us mount a microwave on the wall?

thanks!
:)

You can get a wall bracket for microwaves to mount them on the wall. Be careful of enclosing a microwave in a unit as it needs a lot of ventilation, particularly if it is a combi-oven as well.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion!

Check the height of Ikea vs Howdens units as well. Good Idea but not if one is taller than the other.

Electrolux make an integrated microwave (EMS17216X) that will fit in most wall units but still to deep for Howdens ones. Use the door from a bridging unit and a filler from an appliance tower unit to complete the unit.

thanks for the tip! I'll investigate further...
... would this wall unit look out of place next to a standard wall unit? It looks like the microwave unit (or the microwave itself) is slightly deeper at 320mm than the regular howdens wall units

Actually, I've just called 2 different Howdens and one claims they do have a microwave unit, while the other denies it!
  • Resurrecting this thread....our Howden's designer said we could have an integrated microwave, and they show it in their brochure (in a Glendevon unit, we're having Burford, but the units are the same size). Now, the spec of the unit is depth 290mm, whilst the microwave depth is 320mm, so the designer says it will not now fit.....

Is she mistaken, or is the brochure misleading? My thought is that perhaps the unit depth is 290mm internally, so would include the rear panel, but this would not be in place for a microwave? Will check on Monday, but any advice appreciated. Cheers.
  • Hi, I just wondered if you got this issue resolved. I am about to fit a Howdens kitchen and need a wall mount microwave too. All the microwaves appear to be 320mm deep and require a 300mm deep cabinet, but the Howdens is listed as 290mm deep. Any advice much appreciated.
  • Hi. Afraid not. The microwave now lives in the utility room on the worktop. Not ideal, but it gives the cats somewhere to hide from the dog!

The Howden's units aren't that deep to be honest; and also, if you happen to go for the Burford Cream, be aware that the end panels are not of a very high quality to be honest.
