Hi Everyone, I'd really appreciate some advice on this
My Dad is ex RAF, he left about 10 years ago and is a member of the AFPS 75 pension scheme.
He's just had a pretty **** diagnosis today of a debilitating and incurable disease which has a life expectancy of a few years at most. I'm now doing the only thing I know how; scouring the internet looking for answers..... Waiting for ssafa to call back but I understand it can take them a while as they're very busy.
What I'm trying to fin out is if he might have any benefits under his pension scheme that might pay out some money on illnesses that were diagnosed post service? I imagine that there isn't but I'm clutching at straws here. I've tried reading the pensions documents but currently just can't think straight. I'm ex forces my self but was on the '05 pension scheme so my knowledge doesn't cut it.
Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

If he is not yet in receipt of a pension he may qualify to receive his preserved pension early, he needs to contact the SPVA Pensions Division. I cannot find any info on increasing the pre age 55 pensions in payment though. I do not believe there are any other extra benefits available, anything would be through one of the ex service charities. Hopefully this is an area that SSAFA should be pretty hot on.0 -
Contact the veterans agency,I did when I was diagnosed with a dodgy ticker in March this year, they completed & sent off for a war pension for me,they also arranged for a RAFA rep to visit me & I was awarded a grant of over £2.5k for bills & living expenses.0
