You can ring the IS and get general advice without giving your deatails so may be worth a phone call to get an explanation as to how it works.

An IPA can only be entered into before you are discharged.

You also have 14 days to decide whether you agree to enter into it.

By which time you will be discharged and the IPA will not be possible.

Thanks, may give them a ring, just wondering how helpful they would be as may look like an attempt to circumvent the system.

Ta for the link mandyl and the post fermi, looks like an IPA may not be inevitable after all. Don't wish to sound like avoiding an IPA is the be all and end all, but it would be nice.

There is no 'sin' in wishing, or indeed, trying to avoid an IPA.

I would expect nothing less from a newly switched-on BR.

After all, the IS happily decided to move the goalposts dramatically with regards to IPA criteria....so they must expect as certain amount of rule-pushing from BR's.

I wonder how many IPA's have been challenged [successfully or not] since the rule change?

Since the large minority of BR's will only be paying to meet the administrative costs of the IS.....and as a consequence, creditors will see little if anything in return...the moral issue really does not hold water.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
  • In between me receiving the IPA form, and me returning it, I was signed off work sick and notified the OR of this. They still wanted me to sign the IPA even though I was signed off work before and after my discharge date.

It all depends on how quickly your OR can send you out your IPA form, and how quickly you return the form. It's amazing how quickly they can be in touch with you when there's the possibility of getting money, when at any other time I've found them to be slow.

As others have said, there's no harm in wishing for you to escape an IPA, purposefully taking action to avoid one is a different matter (if you were to "forget" to tell them for example)

Good luck and let us know the outcome x

Not an issue until November but will definitely relay the outcome. Just relieved to find like minded individuals and not moral judges.
